Torque Vijay Iyer | Other works for percussion quartet, including the world premiere of a new commission by Percussion Australia

Synergy presents a program built around the virtuosity and rhythmic, melodic and harmonic intricacies of Vijay Iyer’s Torque. The composer writes, “Torque, a twisting force on a body, seems to appear for the listener at music’s formal boundaries, when one movement type gives way to another. This piece invites the percussion quartet to perform transformations that twist the music’s temporal flow, bringing the micro-relational art of the rhythm section into this ensemble format.” Accompanying Torque will be a new work by a young generation Australian composer (and if you’d like to be involved in the commissioning of this work, please contact Percussion Australia).
